Howard Balloch, President and Founding Partner
Howard Balloch, President of The Balloch Group, founded TBG after serving for more than five years as Canada’s Ambassador to China at the conclusion of a 25-year governmental career. Since then, he has led the company from a fledgling consultancy to becoming one of the five leading China-based boutique investment banks.
Both in his Ambassadorial position and in government in Canada, Howard Balloch was closely associated with the expansion of business ties between Canada and Asia, refocusing many government programs to be more supportive of the private sector. He currently serves on a number of corporate boards, having served for nine years on the Board of the Asia Pacific Foundation, and was for four years Adjunct Professor of International Business at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. He also served in the early 1990s on the National Committee on Competitiveness of the Business Council on National Issues. Prior to joining Government, he worked as an economist at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research in London.
He received his BA and MA from McGill University, and continued his graduate studies at University of Toronto and at the Fondation Nationale de Sciences Politiques in Paris. Howard Balloch is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Metals and Mining.
